Judy Melinek, MD, & TJ Mitchell

Judy Melinek, M.D. is a graduate of Harvard College and earned her medical degree and completed a residency in pathology at UCLA. Her further training in forensics at the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner is the subject of the memoir Working Stiff: Two Years, 262 Bodies, and the Making of a Medical Examiner, co-authored with her husband, writer T.J. Mitchell. Melinek & Mitchell have launched a medical-examiner detective series with the mystery novel First Cut, and are writing the sequel, Aftershock. Today Dr. Melinek is CEO of the medico-legal consultancy PathologyExpert Inc. and performs autopsies as a forensic pathologist in Wellington, New Zealand. Dr. Melinek writes a regular column for MedPage Today at https://www.medpagetoday.com/blogs/working-stiff. She travels nationally and internationally to lecture on anatomic and forensic pathology, and has been consulted as a forensic expert in many high-profile legal cases and in print, online, and broadcast media.

T.J. Mitchell is a writer with an English degree from Harvard who worked in the film industry before becoming a full-time stay-at-home dad. He is the New York Times bestselling co-author of the 2014 memoir Working Stiff: Two Years, 262 Bodies, and the Making of a Medical Examiner with his wife, Dr. Judy Melinek.
